To manage the receivables function of Michael Debono Ltd. by assessing credit risks, approving credit limits, monitoring customer payment behaviour, and ensuring that all outstanding receivables, particularly those related to hire purchase contracts, are collected in a timely, efficient, and customer-friendly manner.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Risk Assessment
• Evaluate creditworthiness of customers applying for HP or credit terms
• Approve or escalate credit decisions based on internal policies
• Liaise with credit reference agencies
• Conduct affordability assessments where necessary
2. Hire Purchase Oversight
• Support sales team with HP proposals and risk insights
• Ensure all necessary documentation is collected before credit approval
• Track customer behaviour post-sale to identify early warning signs of default
3. Debt Collection & Receivables Management
• Monitor overdue balances and aged debtor reports
• Lead collection efforts—calls, reminders, legal escalations
• Coordinate repossession process where necessary
• Maintain positive relationships while enforcing payment terms
4. Policy & Compliance
• Develop and enforce dealership credit policies
• Ensure compliance with consumer finance regulations (e.g., affordability checks, data protection)
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation affecting credit
5. Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare monthly credit and collections reports
• Track KPIs such as DSO (Days Sales Outstanding), delinquency rates, and bad debt provisions
• Recommend provisions or write-offs to the CFO
6. Team Leadership
• Supervise credit control or collections officers
• Provide training on best practices and customer handling
• Allocate and review workload
7. Treasury
• Monitor daily cash positions.
• Oversee bank accounts, electronic payments, and reconciliations.
• Maintain list of internet banking users and corresponding forms
• Liaise with banks and other financial institutions
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• 3+ years in credit management or receivables, preferably in automotive or retail finance
• Experience with HP, leasing, or consumer credit agreements

• Proficiency with ERP, dealer management systems (DMS) and Excel
